Acton Banking Hub Named as the UK's Busiest

National network marks five-year milestone

The Acton Banking Hub is claimed to be the busiest in the country The Acton Banking Hub is officially the busiest in the country

The UK’s network of shared banking hubs is marking its fifth anniversary — and new figures show that Acton has become the busiest hub in the country, handling almost 450 transactions every day. The claim that Acton was the busiest has been made before but a new report has now confirmed this to be the case.

Cash Access UK, the organisation responsible for delivering banking hubs and other cash-access services, has released new data to mark five years since the first hubs opened in Rochford and Cambuslang in April 2021. The figures underline how central the hubs have become to high streets across the country, particularly in areas where traditional bank branches have closed.

Across the UK, banking hubs now support nearly one million customer transactions every month. On average, each hub handles 167 transactions a day — but Acton far exceeds that, making it the most active hub in the country.

The popularity of the Acton hub reflects both the high footfall of the area and the continued need for face-to-face banking services. Nine in ten transactions at hubs nationwide come from personal customers, with the remainder from small businesses depositing cash. Withdrawals remain the most common service for individuals, while deposits dominate for businesses.

Cash Access UK says the hubs are helping to keep cash viable on the high street. Customer satisfaction is also high, with nine in ten users saying they would recommend their local hub and 95% reporting that their banking needs were fully met.

Banking hubs operate as shared spaces where customers of all major banks can withdraw and deposit cash at a Post Office-run counter, Monday to Friday. Each hub also hosts a rotating community banker service, allowing customers to speak to their own bank about more complex issues.

Since the pilot phase, the network has expanded rapidly. Cash Access UK has now delivered more than 370 services, including 234 hubs, with LINK recommending 276 locations in total. In 2025 alone, 101 new hubs opened — a 98% increase on the previous year. The rollout has been supported by new FCA regulations introduced in 2024, which require banks to maintain reasonable access to cash, and by the government’s commitment to opening 350 hubs by the end of this Parliament.

Alongside the hubs, more than 140 deposit services are now operating across the UK, including deposit ATMs and enhanced banking counters in Post Offices. Cash Access UK has also launched a new “Cash Service” model in Ripley, offering everyday banking support with staff on hand to help customers navigate queries and connect with their bank.

Gareth Oakley, CEO of Cash Access UK, said, “I am very proud of what we have achieved over the past five years and delighted to see the difference our services have made for communities and local businesses across the UK.”
