Local Safer Neighbourhood teams from Southfield and Acton joined forces with Tesco at The Vale, W3, for a three-day operation aimed at reducing shoplifting.
The initiative, which ran from 27 to 29 August, was launched in response to a rise in thefts at the store, with around 24 incidents reported over the previous three months.
Officers in uniform and plain clothes were stationed in and around the premises to deter theft and respond quickly to any incidents. During the operation, police recovered stolen items in two separate stop-and-searches and prevented further offences. In one case, a suspect attempted to flee but was not pursued due to safety concerns. The stolen goods were still retrieved.
Police believe their visible and discreet presence helped prevent thefts during the operation. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to support local businesses and address crime in busy retail areas.
The police are updating the community on local operations on Met Engage and would like as many residents as possible to sign up.
