The Green Party has selected its candidate for Brentford East ahead of May’s local elections, as the political picture in the ward begins to take shape.

It has confirmed that long-standing Brentford resident Tony Firkins will stand in the ward. He is currently the party’s only candidate in a two seat ward.

Firkins, who has lived in the area for more than 40 years, brings a strong environmental focus to his campaign. He has previously stood for election in the Feltham and Heston constituency and holds a national role within the party, working on climate and energy policy.

As a resident of Brentford for more than four decades, he says his main focus is environmental issues relating to local planning, and the policies required to return the world within planetary boundaries adding, "We need to look at local issues in the context of what needs to be done to address the climate and biodiversity crisis at the country and international levels. At the council level, we need to think global and act local".

His candidacy forms part of a wider Green Party push in the borough, which will also see Katharine Kandelaki stand in Hounslow East. She works as solicitor in property and healthcare law, including pro-bono work for research into nuclear power

The nominations deadline for candidates for the local elections is 9 April by which time other parties should have declared who will be representing them. The election takes place on Thursday 7 May.

Brentford East Ward Results

The ward was only created for the 2022 boundary review and first time out it was a double-seat election won comfortably by Labour, with Rhys Williams and Marina Sharma both elected. The Conservatives and Greens were closely matched for third and fourth place.

In a 2025 by-election, brought about by Rhys Williams standing down Labour held the seat, but Reform UK came in a strong second with 22%. Max Mosley became councillor for the ward
