A sign up event is being held at Chiswick Town Hall
March 13, 2025
A Chiswick-based blood cancer charity is holding a drive to get people to sign up to a stem cell register. This will increase the chance of finding potentially life-saving matches for people with blood cancer and disorders. Signing up just takes a 3 minute cheek swab.
The event is being held on Sunday 6 April from 11am to 4pm at Chiswick Town Hall on Heathfield Terrace.
If you're aged between 17-55 and in general good health, you can get registered.
For people diagnosed with blood cancer or a blood disorder, a stem cell transplant may be their only chance at survival.
Currently, 4 out of 10 patients won't find a match on the stem cell register but if more people sign up this can be changed.
DKMS cites the example of 10-year-old Amilah who has been diagnosed with blood disorder aplastic anaemia. This means she may need a lifesaving stem cell transplant at any time. Currently, Amilah has no match on the worldwide register.
For some patients, this is like finding a needle in a haystack which is why DKMS need as many people as possible to register as potential lifesavers.
If you are unable to make the event at the Town Hall you can start the process of joining the stem cell register online.
