The Rare Cancers Bill had its remaining stages in the House of Commons last Friday. Many constituents had written to me in the lead-up asking me to attend and as part of my speech, I mentioned two families in my constituency who had been directly impacted by a loved one with a rare cancer.
I am really grateful to all MPs who spoke in the debate and highlighted the importance of ensuring rare cancers get more research and treatment focus. I am so pleased that this Bill passed its remaining stages in the House of Commons and will now make its way through the Lords.
On Monday evening this week I was delighted to attend the Cavendish Primary Summer Exhibition. The artworks created by the children were fantastic and I was very impressed by the creativity and the standard of the work. The theme was ‘where we belong’ and all year groups took part. The exhibition was curated by Mr Stewart, and he did a fantastic job.
There was some welcome news from the London Mayor’s office last week with the launch of their Safer Streets Summer Initiative. Working with the met, 35 town centres have been identified as places where antisocial behaviour reports have increased, and they will benefit from increased patrols and intelligence-led plain clothed operations. One of these areas is Shepherd's Bush Green and I am grateful to the London Mayor and the Met for this extra focus throughout the summer and into September to tackle crime.
This week I attended the 30th anniversary of the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith. I was very grateful to the Irish Embassy as the hosts of the evening. There was a great atmosphere celebrating a fantastic organisation in our local community.
Other constituency events I have enjoyed recently have been the very successful wine tasting fundraiser for the Hogarth Community Centre and the Grove Park summer drinks, including a great presentation on the issues for residents in Grove Park.

This week I received notice that Hounslow Council have written to Transport Minister, Lord Hendy, in support of applications made to the Department for Transport’s Access for All scheme. The application has been made by South Western Railway Limited (SWR) and Transport for London (TfL) for step-free access improvements at Kew Bridge and Gunnersbury stations. As many constituents will know, this is something I am strongly in favour of, and I will be keeping an eye out for a response from the Minister.
On Friday afternoon I had a busy day in the constituency meeting with organisations and businesses. In the morning, I had the pleasure of visiting West London Centre for Counselling to hear all about the work and support they offer in the local community to provide therapeutic counselling. I was then invited for a tour of Sainsbury’s Chiswick where I was really pleased to meet with staff. Lastly, I was in Chiswick Business Park to meet with Pernod Ricard, a premium champagne and spirits company.
In Justice related matters, the Justice Committee has finished taking evidence for the inquiry into the County Court and publication of the report can be expected next week. For any of those interested in reading the findings of our report, it will be published on the Justice Committee website.
