One Jab Cures All at the Tabard Theatre

A new comedy about science, secrets and saving the world

Rehearsals for One Jab Cures All

What would happen if a group of scientists really did discover the holy grail of medicine – a single jab that cures every disease? That’s the premise behind One Jab Cures All, a new comedy from writer and journalist Lloyd Evans, opening at the Tabard later this minth.

Set in a high-security research lab, the play follows Dr Max, a well-meaning scientist who accidentally stumbles upon a miracle drug. His boss, the ruthlessly ambitious Dr Judy, immediately sees pound signs and plans to sell the cure privately to the super-rich. Max, horrified, smuggles samples to a nearby hospital in the hope of saving lives rather than lining pockets.

When Max’s teenage daughter Felicity joins the rebellion, Judy orders junior researcher Vic to keep an eye on her – but the pair fall in love and soon find themselves plotting a takeover of the lab. As tensions rise, Judy prepares a far more sinister solution to her staffing problem. The result is a fast-paced, morally charged comedy that asks a provocative question: if scientists cured everything, would they actually tell us?

The production is written and produced by Lloyd Evans, best known for the hit political farce Who’s the Daddy? and the recent Dom – the Play. It is directed by Matthew Parker, an award-winning theatre director and former artistic director of the Hope Theatre. Parker’s recent credits include Bonding (Adelaide Fringe and UK tour), Trestle at the Jack Studio Theatre, and the musical comedy I Wish My Life Were Like a Musical at Wilton’s Music Hall and the King’s Head Theatre. His tenure at the Hope earned him the OFFIE Award for Best Artistic Director in 2016.

The cast features Rob Pomfret as Max, Sophie MacKall as Judy, Jay Warn as Vic and Lauren Whitehill as Felicity.
