The Ealing, Hammersmith & Hounslow branch of Samaritans is preparing for a season of support and song this December, with carol singing at Ealing Broadway station and a dedicated Christmas card shop helping raise funds for its year-round emotional support services.

On Thursday 18 December, volunteers and supporters will gather at Ealing Broadway station from 5pm to 7pm to sing carols and raise awareness of the charity’s work. The event is part of a wider festive effort to ensure the branch’s 120 volunteers can continue offering free, confidential support to anyone struggling this winter.

Juliet Medforth, co-director of the west London branch, said, “Winter can be a hard time for many, and this year could be especially so, as households brace themselves for higher bills. Our Christmas fundraising activity is to support the service being offered 365 days a year by the 120 volunteers in our branch. A call to 116 123 means that there is no need to struggle alone.”

Alongside the carol singing, Samaritans-branded Christmas cards are available at the Ealing Charity Christmas Card Shop, located at the Church of Christ the Saviour on New Broadway, W5 2XA. The shop is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm, until 18 December.

Volunteers from the South Ealing-based branch will join more than 200 Samaritans branches across the UK and Ireland in maintaining round-the-clock support throughout the festive season. The charity responds to over five million calls for help each year, offering support by phone, email and in person.

Founded in 1972, the Ealing, Hammersmith & Hounslow branch is run entirely by volunteers and relies on donations, legacies and fundraising to continue its work. The branch is part of a national network offering free support to anyone in emotional distress, including those at risk of suicide.
