Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery in Ealing will host two major exhibitions in 2026, each exploring nature through the eyes of leading British women artists.

Marthe Armitage: Pattern Maker
19 March – 19 July 2026
Marthe Armitage, now 95, is celebrated for her hand-drawn and hand-printed wallpaper and fabric designs. This exhibition traces her creative process from sketches and lino blocks to finished works, showing how everyday scenes from her Chiswick surroundings — trees, plants, and architectural details — are transformed into imaginative patterns. Visitors will see original drawings, prints, and large-scale installed wallpapers, offering a rare glimpse into the life and work of one of Britain’s most beloved designers.

Clare Woods: Garden Without Seasons
29 July – 8 November 2026
Clare Woods RA brings her vibrant paintings, collages, and prints to Pitzhanger’s historic spaces. Known for her bold mark-making and interest in reworking traditional genres like still life and landscape, Woods’ work hovers between abstraction and figuration. Highlights include Under The Dome (2024), inspired by Kew Gardens’ Temperate House, which reflects on the fragility of life and the ecosystems that sustain it. New works created for Pitzhanger will draw on the Manor’s interiors and parkland, inviting visitors to reflect on time, presence, and absence.

Together, these exhibitions connect contemporary art with the themes that fascinated Sir John Soane, Pitzhanger’s original architect — pattern, nature, and the passage of time — while offering fresh perspectives for today’s audiences.

Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery is at Ealing Green, (W5 5EQ).
