The police are urging people who live in Southfield ward to consider signing up for Met Engage after a relatively slow take up so far.

A message published on the system by PC Christopher Delargy says, “Currently we only have 76 residents that have signed up to Met Engage which is a low number. Would you mind reaching out to your friends, neighbours and people on your Whatsapp groups and ask if they if are interested in signing up please?”

He points out that the platform is not just about keeping the community informed but also provides an opportunity for people to tell local officers what their concerns are about local crime.

Generally, the Met have been positive about the sign ups for Met engage saying that ‘thousands’ have already joined.

Met Engage is designed to improve communication between local policing teams and the public, offering updates on crime, safety advice, and opportunities to shape local policing priorities.

Residents can subscribe to receive alerts, participate in surveys such as the “Local Matters” consultation, and engage directly with their Safer Neighbourhood Teams.

Police officers are highlighting several key benefits of the system. First, they emphasise that the platform enhances personal and community safety. Residents who sign up will receive alerts about local crime, incidents, and appeals directly from their neighbourhood policing teams. They will also receive tailored safety advice to help protect themselves, their families, and their property.

Second, the Met is promoting Met Engage as a tool for direct communication and transparency. Subscribers will stay informed with updates from officers working in their ward, including news about policing priorities and the outcomes of local operations. The platform also provides early warnings about scams and frauds as they emerge.

Third, the Met is using arguments around community voice and engagement. Residents who sign up can participate in consultations which help shape policing priorities in their area. They will also receive invitations to community meetings and events, and have opportunities to contribute to ward panels, where they can raise concerns and provide feedback that influences local decision-making.

Fourth, the Met is reassuring users about privacy and accessibility. Signing up is free, quick, and secure, and users can adjust their preferences at any time. The service does not require an app and can be accessed via email or browser, making it available to those who do not use smartphones.
