Ealing Councillor Visits Charity Boutique Fight for Sight
Shop is championing sustainable fashion and sight-saving research

Ealing Broadway’s popular Fight for Sight charity boutique welcomed local councillor Seema Kumar on Wednesday (21 January) as she met volunteers, learned about the charity’s work, and saw first-hand how sustainable fashion is helping fund life-changing eye research.
Councillor Kumar, a Conservative representative for the area, joined volunteers sorting donated items and spoke with staff about the charity’s dual mission: supporting pioneering scientific research to prevent sight loss and funding community initiatives that help people already living with visual impairment. These include walking groups, parent support networks and other projects designed to improve wellbeing and reduce isolation.
Speaking after her visit, Councillor Kumar praised the shop’s role in the community. “Fight for Sight’s shop is a treasured part of Ealing’s local shopping scene. Not only can you update your wardrobe with unique finds, but your purchases will support life-changing research in a lab, and vital projects which enable and empower people of all ages who are living with sight loss. By simply shopping or donating, you are part of a movement to make a real difference.”
Her previous efforts to highlight the charity’s work recently helped inspire a substantial donation from a local resident.
The boutique, known for its curated mix of preloved, vintage and designer fashion, also stocks homeware, books and entertainment. Fight for Sight places sustainability at the heart of its retail model, recycling second-hand clothing and working with fashion retailers to divert new items from landfill.
Every purchase directly supports the charity’s mission, with 79p from each item sold going toward cutting-edge research and social-impact projects. The organisation hopes Councillor Kumar’s visit will encourage more residents to shop, donate and volunteer. Donations of clothing, books, bric-a-brac and homeware are especially welcome.
Fight for Sight’s Commercial Manager, Goda Rekute, who met Councillor Kumar during the visit, said the charity is grateful for the strong local support. “We are delighted to welcome Councillor Kumar to Fight for Sight’s boutique shop in Ealing to meet our wonderful volunteers and hear about our work. We are fortunate to have a very supportive local community, and we are so grateful for their generosity. Every item donated to or bought from the shop will help fund the brilliant minds and bright ideas, putting change in sight for everyone impacted by vision loss.”
The shop, located at 12 The Broadway, W5 2NH, is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sundays from 11am to 5pm.
